BU researchers 3D print acoustic metamaterial that cancels sound without blocking airflow

A team of mechanical engineers at Boston University say that it is possible to silence noise using an open, ringlike structure, created to mathematically perfect specifications, for cutting out sounds while maintaining airflow.
