ACS uses robotic arm and mass spectrometry to analyze surface of irregular 3D shapes

A group of chemical researchers have pioneered a new way to carry out mass spectrometry on irregular objects, with many potential applications. The technique uses a robotic arm and a 3D scanner in order to create a digital map of a surface, which directs a chemical probe to gather samples.
